Guilt
The issue of guilt runs deep so it will take time to work though. There is a lie that can cripple us if it runs our life. It is a lie that says: Because I failed, I am unworthy of love and deserve to be punished. That lie makes us feel like God hates us and that we are ugly and worthless. That is simply not true! The truth is: Because of Jesus, you are deeply loved by God and accepted by him (Romans 5:1-10; Romans 8:1-2, 31-39; Isaiah 53:4-6). Since this takes time to get into our minds, hearts, and daily lives, what can you do when the hurt and guilt comes back?
- Give yourself a break - More often then not, we are harder on ourselves than our Father would be.
- Most of the time, feelings are not reliable guides - Memorize as much Scripture as you can and review it often. Have it written down and carry it with you and tape it to mirrors so you can read it often. Many times, you will have to believe what God says, no matter what your feelings tell you (this is probably the hardest part of our growth in the Lord).
- Study God’s word - Invest time in a Bible study such as Mark
